It’s Christmas Season! I am filled with memories of Christmas past. Turn on your imagination and let’s visit my Great Grandmothers, Aunt Josie ‘s house in the woods in Clay County, Kentucky. Here we go:
wash on Monday
iron on Tuesday
mend on Wednesday
churn on Thursday
clean on Friday
bake on Saturday
rest on Sunday
list from Little House in the Big Woods, a children’s classic story that began in 1871. It so reminds me of Aunt Josie’s home and her era.
Of course, there is home made jelly on the ledge of the wood stove in the kitchen!
Yummy memories!
Thanks for joining me. What are your memories of Christmas past?
Roy Spurlock says
I was borne and raised on Hector Creek in Clay county Kentucky . I am the oldest of six. I remember our Christmas, in Clay county we usually got a bag of fruit and some candy and maybe a new shirt and a new pair pants to wear too school. There was always plenty to eat my mother and grandmother always had a feast for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Now-a-days the holiday have become all about what you can buy for your children as presents for Christmas. I know times have changed but sometimes the changed changes the way one looks at life. In my opinion the Christmas of my childhood was the best Christmas I ever had it was all about family; and not so mush about material things. Thanks Roy Spurlock

Roy, thank you so much for sharing. I hope to visit Clay County before spring. I have been researching looking for pictures of my Great grandmother. I sure would love to leave those wonderful memories with my children. Have a great day.
